What to Expect When You Hire a Kalamazoo Roofing Contractor
If you are in need of a new roof, you are probably wondering what to expect. It is, after all, one of the more expensive and important home improvements you will need to make. In this post, your Kalamazoo roofing contractor, Sherriff-Goslin, discusses the process from start to finish.
Selecting a Kalamazoo Roofing Contractor
Unsurprisingly, the first step in the process is choosing a Kalamazoo roofing contractor for your roof installation. You want to make sure that you hire a reputable, fully insured roofer that has excellent customer service and open communication. At Sherriff-Goslin, we present you with all of the available options and give you time to decide on shingle color and style so that your new roof is exactly what you envisioned. It’s also crucial that you make sure your roofing contractor installs a complete roofing system. To learn more about why you need a complete roofing system, click here.
Most of our roof installations take only one or two days unless the home is large or the roof is steep. In those cases, in can take up to three or four days. While your roof is being installed, we will have vehicles, tools, and equipment on your property but will leave no trace that we were there once the installation is complete.
Installing Your New Roof
We begin by removing your old roofing materials, including shingles, underlayment, flashing, and nails starting and the top ridge of your home and working our way down to the bottom. If necessary, we will make repairs to the roof’s foundation (plywood and/or boards) that your new roofing materials are being applied to. Of course, we will also repair any damage, rot, or warping. Once everything is removed, we begin by installing metal edging and underlayment. Then it’s time for shingle installation to begin. Using galvanized nails to prevent rust, we begin at the bottom and work upward, laying shingles in horizontal, overlapping rows to prevent roof leaks. Once the shingles are installed, we install flashing around any vents, chimneys, skylights, or pipes is installed followed by the ridge vent and ridge caps. Lastly, we thoroughly clean up. Other than the gorgeous new roof, you won’t even know we were there!
